  • Majority of students have a BSc degree.  Many have MSc, PhD, or MD before enrolment

 Naturopathic medical education:

  • Four year naturopathic medical postgraduate program:
    • 4,300 hours of full time training, which includes 1,000 hours clinical education (hands on supervised treatment of patients in a clinical setting)

 Naturopathic Doctors Licensing Examination (NPLEX)

  • NPLEX is the standardized examination used by all licensed jurisdictions for naturopathic doctors in North America.  They are administered by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners (NABNE), and includes:
    • 5 basic sciences exams (anatomy, physiology, pathology, biochemistry, microbiology and immunology)
    • 10 clinical exams (clinical and physical diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis and diagnostic imaging, botanical medicine, pharmacology, nutrition, physical medicine, homeopathy, minor surgery, psychology and lifestyle counseling, and emergency medicine)
    • Elective exams (dependent upon jurisdictions)
  • Naturopathic doctors must pass these exams to be eligible for licensing in all regulated provinces and states
  • Each jurisdiction may then add jurisprudence and practical exams.
